Alternate picking across strings

Alternate picking across strings

A fast lick to improve alternate picking across strings. The first part of the lick is an ascending section only on the first string, and in the later part it suddenly turns into a descending section that climbs down the 2nd, 3rd and finally ending on the 4th string.

The ascending section uses only the 1st string but the challenge is to play fast while maintaining left-right hand coordination. The descending section involves alternate picking across strings, which makes it a good standalone exercise for those who struggle with this in particular. You may find that you can play the ascending section faster than the descending section, in which case, practice the former first to reach a respectable tempo such as 140 bpm, then practice the second part in isolation to catch up to that speed.
